Upper School Science

Years 9, 10 and 11

The Edexcel GCSE in Sciences starts in Year 9.

The students have 3 specialist teachers for Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Combined Science Award

Students are awarded two grades. There are teaching units in Biology, Chemistry and Physics with approximately two-thirds of the subject content of the single sciences. Students will take two examination papers in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in the summer term in Year 11. The assessment of investigative and practical skills is carried out through core practical tasks which are then assessed within the written examinations.

Triple Award

Students are awarded grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Students take two examination papers in each of the Sciences in the summer term in Year 11.  The assessment of investigative and practical skills is carried out through core practical tasks which are then assessed within the written examinations.

Final decisions for appropriate entry for each student are made at the end of Year 10 to ensure the correct pace and detail for each individual student.
